H. F. Gibbons Esq: to Actg. Colonial Secretary.
Sir,
Hongkong, 3rd November 1880.
I have the honor to request that you will inform His Excellency the Governor that my recent interview with him has led to the conclusion that neither my own interests nor those of the public will be served by my remaining in the Colony after the meeting of the Executive Council, before whom I can only appear under protest, and I therefore propose, with the sanction of His Excellency, to leave.
The Honorable J. Stewart LL.D.
Acting Colonial Secretary.
